Jesus was not a failure to the Gospel writers because they believed that God vindicated him by raising him from the dead. His first Jewish followers worshipped a crucified and resurrected Messiah. Any account of the last days of Jesus should end with Easter Sunday, otherwise the story and its aftermath make no sense.
